rsync to server

To copy files from your local machine to a remote server with rsync:

rsync -avz /path/to/local/file user@server:/path/to/remote/directory/

Examples:

rsync -avz ./myproject/ ubuntu@192.168.1.100:/home/ubuntu/projects/

rsync -avz -e "ssh -p 2222" ./myproject/ ubuntu@example.com:/home/ubuntu/projects/

rsync -avz --delete ./myproject/ ubuntu@example.com:/home/ubuntu/projects/

rsync -avz --progress ./myproject/ ubuntu@example.com:/home/ubuntu/projects/

Important: A trailing slash changes behavior:

rsync -avz myproject/ user@server:/dest/

Copies the contents of myproject.

rsync -avz myproject user@server:/dest/

Copies the directory itself (/dest/myproject).
