Install Obsidian On Gentoo

Obsidian does not appear in the official Gentoo app-editors repository, but an app-editors/obsidian ebuild is available through the nest overlay.

For your Gentoo system, I'd install it through the overlay so Portage manages it.

1. Make sure overlay support is installed

sudo emerge --ask app-eselect/eselect-repository

2. Enable the `nest` overlay

sudo eselect repository enable nest
sudo emaint sync -r nest

Verify:

eselect repository list | grep nest

3. Check Obsidian

emerge -s obsidian

You should see something similar to:

*  app-editors/obsidian

The overlay package is currently keyworded ~amd64, so on your amd64 Gentoo installation you may need to accept that keyword.

echo "app-editors/obsidian ~amd64" | sudo tee /etc/portage/package.accept_keywords/obsidian

If that directory doesn't exist:

sudo mkdir -p /etc/portage/package.accept_keywords

echo "app-editors/obsidian ~amd64" |
    sudo tee /etc/portage/package.accept_keywords/obsidian

4. Install

sudo emerge --ask app-editors/obsidian

Then launch:

obsidian
